Jets and Giants aren’t ready for prime time

49ers are two-touchdown favourites over the Cardinals

NORTHSTAR BETS

Both New York teams are in prime time this week as the Jets host Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs (and Taylor Swift?) on Sunday night, while the Giants welcome a Seahawks team starting to jell.

The largest spread of the week? That title belongs to the San Francisco 49ers, who are a two-touchdown favourite over Arizona. Here’s how the NorthStar Bets team sees it going against the spread:

Sunday’s games

Falcons (+3) vs. Jaguars, at London, 9:30 a.m.

Chris Toman says: The Jaguars get a Falcons defence that has been solid, particularly against the pass. Coming off a six-point game with Desmond Ridder running the offence, Atlanta might not score much, but its defence should be able to keep this close. Pick: Falcons Ravens (+2.5) at Browns, 1 p.m.

Steven Psihogios says: Cleveland’s defence is for real. No team is allowing fewer yards per play (3.2) than the Browns through three weeks. Bet the better team at home while laying less than a field goal.

Pick: Browns

Bengals (-2.5) at Titans, 1 p.m.

Avery Perri says: Cincinnati’s first win of the season didn’t come with a vintage Joe Burrow performance but he improved as the game went on and Ja’Marr Chase ran roughshod for 141 yards.

The Titans have looked awful.

Pick: Bengals

Broncos (-3.5) at Bears, 1 p.m.

Toman says: The options are either get behind a winless team that just allowed 70 points or one that has lost all three games by double digits. At least Russell Wilson and the Broncos have the look of a somewhat competent offence. Pick: Broncos

Rams (pick ’em) at Colts, 1 p.m.

Psihogios says: The Colts will get Anthony Richardson back and his legs will create a problem for the Rams, who haven’t faced a dualthreat passer this year. Los Angeles is operating on a short week, too.

Pick: Colts

Dolphins (+3) at Bills, 1 p.m.

Perri says: Mike McDaniel’s offence has been unstoppable and wide receiver Jaylen Waddle will be

back in the fold. This has all the makings of a track meet and Miami has the fastest team in football.

Pick: Dolphins

Vikings (-4.5) at Panthers, 1 p.m.

Toman says: It looks like rookie Panthers quarterback Bryce Young will be back Sunday, which is great for his development but bad for Carolina’s chances against the Vikings, desperate for their first win.

Pick: Vikings

Steelers (-2.5) at Texans, 1 p.m.

Psihogios says: C.J. Stroud is first among freshmen with 906 passing yards and has thrown four touchdown passes with no interceptions. He’s showing more promise than sophomore Kenny Pickett, who is leading a Pittsburgh offence that is averaging the 11th-fewest yards per play (4.8). Pick: Texans

Buccaneers (+3.5) at Saints, 1 p.m.

Perri says: The Saints will be without Derek Carr but Jameis Winston looked more than serviceable last Sunday, completing 10 of 16 attempts for 101 yards. Alvin Kamara is back in the mix and New Orleans is always a tough at home. Pick: Saints

Commanders (+8) at Eagles, 1 p.m.

Toman says: Philadelphia’s ground game has been elite and Washington has struggled in that department, not to mention the big mismatch at quarterback (Sam Howell vs. Jalen Hurts). Pick: Eagles

Raiders (+5.5) at Chargers, 4:05 p.m.

Psihogios says: The Raiders

should be able to move the ball against the Chargers defence, which is allowing the second-most yards per play (6.6). Pick: Raiders

Cardinals (+14) at 49ers, 4:25 p.m.

Perri says: Arizona just won its Super Bowl last week against Dallas, which eliminates any chance San Francisco is going to look past this game. The 49ers have won five straight regular-season home games by 16-plus points. Pick: 49ers

Patriots (+6.5) at Cowboys, 4:25 p.m.

Psihogios says: The Cowboys went 1-for-5 inside the red zone in last week’s loss to Arizona. Expect the offence to get right against New England, which is playing its second road game in as many weeks.

Pick: Cowboys

Chiefs (-9.5) at Jets, 8:20 p.m.

Perri says: New York’s offence is in shambles with Zach Wilson at the helm and Kansas City’s defence is allowing just 13.3 points per game.

Pick: Chiefs

Monday’s game

Seahawks (+1) at Giants, 8:15 p.m.

Psihogios says: The Seahawks have scored 74 points in their last two games and the Giants, with or without Saquon Barkley, don’t seem well-equipped to keep up. Pick: Seahawks

Records

Last week (season): Perri: 7-9 (2421-3) | Psihogios: 8-8 (21-24-3) | Toman: 13-3 (30-15-3)
