What is Giving Tuesday?

Started in the U.S. in 2012 and launched in Canada 10 years ago by CanadaHelps, GIV3 and several other founding partners, Giving Tuesday is part of a global movement that has spread to more than 80 countries around the world. Its message is simple — everyone has something to give and every act of generosity counts.

On Giving Tuesday, which takes place today, people are encouraged to engage in a creative and inspiring act of giving — from donating generously to charities or volunteering their time, to registering to be an organ donor or deliver groceries to families that are food insecure.

But Giving Tuesday’s message also goes beyond a single day. It is about showing people how easy it can be to be generous and support your neighbours and others in need all year long.
