Sleep like Shrek in a free Airbnb

MARISSA BIRNIE

Just listed: A two-bed, one-bath studio with rustic interiors, natural views and the possibility of running into a giant green ogre and/or fairy tale creature.

Airbnb is renting out a real-life version of the swamp property from the 2001 DreamWorks Animation film “Shrek,” the company announced this week.

Shrek’s swamp is available to rent in Scotland starting next month and it’s completely free, Airbnb said in a news release.

Located in Highland Council, the property is a realistic homage to the movie, complete with an outhouse, campfire and other details sure to be recognizable to fans.

Described as a “mud-laden, mosscovered, murky-watered oasis,” by the Airbnb’s “host,” Donkey, the swamp is welcoming “brogres” of all kinds over five years old.

Meals are included in the stay and the listing notes that guests can enjoy some of Donkey’s favourites including a parfait or stack of freshly made waffles. No word if Shrek’s foodie favourites — like swamp toad soup, fish-eye tartar or rats on a stick — are available.

Bookings begin on Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. BST and include a two-night stay for up to three guests between Oct. 27 and 29. The property is operated by an independent company, Airbnb said.

The listing notes that guests are responsible for their travel to Scotland and must be willing to make the 20-metre trek to the outhouse.

Airbnb said it will make a onetime donation to HopScotch Children’s Charity, which helps disadvantaged Scottish youth experience a week of holiday.
