Veteran actor puts on a new badge

“Flashpoint” star Enrico Colantoni is heading back to the police station.

The veteran Canadian actor will star in “Allegiance,” a CBC police procedural that will debut in winter 2024.

Colantoni, who starred as an emergency task force sergeant in crime drama “Flashpoint” and is also known for playing the father of “Veronica Mars,” will portray a training officer alongside Supinder Wraich of “Sort Of,” who will star as a rookie police officer in Surrey, B.C. The news release from CBC and Lark Productions says Wraich’s character Sabrina is “caught between her allegiance to her flag, to her badge and to her family,” and is fighting to exonerate her politician father Ajeet (Stephen Lobo of “Continuum”).

Besides a lead actor, “Allegiance” also shares showrun- ners with “Flashpoint” in Mark Ellis and Stephanie Morgen- stern, who created the latter show. “Allegiance” was created by Anar Ali.

Sally Catto, CBC’s general manager of factual and sports entertainment, said the new show will offer “an emotionally gritty yet hopeful story that hasn’t been told before, reflect- ing the complexities of policing and justice in contemporary Canada from multiple perspec- tives.”

The series is now in produc- tion in Vancouver and B.C.’s Lower Mainland. It will air on CBC TV and CBC Gem.

Other cast members include Adolyn H. Dar (“The Ex- panse”), Brian Markinson (“Continuum”) and David Cu- bitt “(Medium”).
