Civilized enough to recognize the barbarity of war

Canada should push for a lasting and fair peace, Oct. 11 As much as I condemn the horrendous carnage brought about by the Hamas, I applaud the letter writer who points out that Canada’s role should be to promote a fair peace and provide humanitarian help rather than to take sides.

Wars never solve anything. They provide devastation and kill innocent people. Aren’t we civilized enough to recognize the barbarity of war and reject it in favour of a diplomatic approach, no matter how hard it may be to achieve?

Canada has a long list of such peace mediation. We should continue that tradition, be it in Israel or Ukraine.
