Unions urged to table proposal

Quebec’s treasury board president implored unions on Sunday to table a counter-offer to the government’s last contract proposal as a week of planned, provincewide public sector strikes is set to get underway. Sonia LeBel said the province’s last offer was a serious one and merited a counterproposal, but the unions have not responded. The offer is worth $8 billion and is the fourth tabled during negotiations. The province is negotiating contracts with unions representing some 600,000 public sector workers.
