Lack of political action to blame for murders

‘He was loved. He had dreams,’ March 27

My brother was murdered in downtown Toronto by a homeless person with mental health and addiction issues. Sound familiar?

The guy had 77 convictions for violence, parole non-compliance, etc., and many sexual assault charges. He was released from jail and awaiting sentencing when he killed my brother, same profile as Gabriel Magalhaes’s killer. He was given seven years, then the judged started applying credits, plus two-third mandatory release. He will serve just over three years. He has not progressed with his incarceration plan and remains unchanged and unremorseful.

Politicians of all stripes have not responded or kicked the can down the road. This is why it will continue to happen. Dale Adams, Mississauga
