Solve educator shortage by boosting pay
Ontario could be short 8,500 ECEs, Jan. 15
I agree that there will be an immense shortage of 8,500 or more early childhood educators in the near future. My question: Why now that the national $10-a-day program has taken effect is there suddenly a worry of losing quality staff? This should have been a concern many years ago for Education Minister Stephen Lecce.
As a registered early childhood educator for 13 years, I agree that families (like mine) deserve affordable child-care education for our children. However our children also deserve to be in the care of quality, well-trained educators. Retaining staff with pay at $18 to $25 an hour is just not feasible.
