BEIJING EASES RULES

Chinese authorities eased some anti-virus rules but affirmed their severe “zero COVID” strategy Monday after protesters demanded President Xi Jinping resign in the biggest show of opposition to the ruling Communist Party in decades. The city government of Beijing announced Monday it would no longer set up gates to block access to apartment compounds where infections are found. In addition, the southern manufacturing and trade metropolis of Guangzhou announced some residents will no longer be required to undergo mass testing.
