Scouts honour Canadian celebrities

DEBRA YEO

“Deadpool” actor Ryan Reynolds, Emmy nominee Sandra Oh, “Schitt’s Creek” creator Daniel Levy and “Ms. Marvel” star Iman Vellani are among 10 Canadians awarded special badges by Scouts Canada.

Scout members were surveyed to name Canada’s most “Scout badge-worthy” celebrities. But while the final tally includes famous folks who’ve won Emmys, Grammys, People’s Choice Awards and other accolades, the Canadian deemed most worthy is Anishinaabe climate activist Autumn Peltier.

She was just 12 in 2016 when she met Prime Minister Justin Trudeau “to address his unfulfilled promise to ‘protect the water,’ ” Scouts Canada said in a news release. “Since then, she remains vocal on the global stage and at home to advocate for clean drinking water.”

Reynolds earned his “Quintuple Threat” badge for being an actor, businessman, advertising magnate, family man and comedian, and for “keeping Canadians sarcastic.”

Oh got the “Standing OHvation” badge for being the first woman of Asian descent to be nominated for the Outstanding Lead Actress Emmy and to win two Golden Globes.

Multiple Emmy winner Levy was deemed “Funny, Fabulous, Formidable” for his work on “Schitt’s Creek” and Vellani earned the “Marvelous Rookie” badge for her role as the first Muslim superhero in “Ms. Marvel.”

Others on the list include Céline Dion, Terry Fox, Keanu Reeves, Elliot Page and Olympic sprinter Crystal Emmanuel.
