Long-delayed LRT is a national embarrassment

Long-delayed Eglinton LRT delayed again, says Metrolinx, Sept. 23

Eleven years. It’s been 11 years since work on the Crosstown first began.

Since then, Shanghai has built eight new metro lines and extended nine more. London opened the majority of its 100kilometre Elizabeth Line, with service and length equivalent to a train every five minutes from Hamilton to Ajax. And final testing is underway for Washington, D.C.’s Silver Line extension, which will connect the city to its international airport.

How is Toronto supposed to be a “world-class city,” if we can’t even figure out how to build a single metro line on time and on budget?
