East won the ace to return the deuce of hearts as partner ruffed and exited with the jack of clubs for the queen, king and ace. South continued with the ten of diamonds, overtaking with the jack, and followed with a spade to the jack.

The ace and king of spades fetched two club pitches from West and revealed a trump loser. Declarer led a heart to dummy, cashed the last one throwing a club and then pitched his remaining club on the ace of diamonds for a rather miraculous ten tricks.

South was quite unlucky to find partner with a singleton spade but he should have have employed New Minor Forcing (two clubs) to gain more information regarding partner's hand.

North would rebid two hearts and South two spades to disclose a six-card suit. North would convert to 2NT and South then has an easy raise to the nine-trick game. East may begin with a heart but North will have an easy time earning the game bonus on this layout.

The defense cannot profitably switch to a club and the king of diamonds and queen of spades are onside.
