■ The Maple Leafs promoted Hayley Wickenheiser to assistant general manager in a series of moves that included naming Curtis Sanford the new goaltending coach. Wickenheiser becomes the assistant GM of player development, her third posting with the organization since 2018. She joins Ryan Hardy and Darryl Metcalf as assistants on GM Kyle Dubas’s staff. Wickenheiser is the latest woman to assume a front-office role in the league — the Vancouver Canucks recently hired Émilie Castonguay and Cammi Granato as assistant GMs, and added Rachel Doerrie in analytics — and she is the fifth female assistant GM in NHL history.

■ Jessica Campbell is the first female assistant coach in the American Hockey League. The 30-year-old from Rocanville, Sask., was named to the Coachella Valley Firebirds coaching staff Tuesday, joining head coach Dan Bylsma with the Seattle Kraken's AHL affiliate.
