One week before the French Open, the world’s top-ranked players — Iga Swiatek and Novak Djokovic — were winners at the Italian Open. Swiatek overwhelmed Ons Jabeur 6-2, 6-2 to defend her title and extend her match winning streak to 28. She was a surprise champion at the French Open in 2020, when she was ranked No. 54. Now she’ll arrive as the favourite. In the men’s final, Djokovic won the Rome title for the sixth time — 6-0, 7-6 (5) over Stefanos Tsitsipas. Djokovic also beat Tsitsipas to win last year’s French Open.
