Nothing good will come of EQAO this year

Ontario moves ahead with standardized testing despite calls from some school boards to put EQAO on hold, May 10

I would appreciate hearing Education Minister Stephen Lecce’s rationale for choosing to reestablish EQAO testing when this school year has been far from normal.

This has been a year when schools continue to cope with the impact of COVID-19 and fluctuating restrictions. A year of high absenteeism of both students and teachers and the introduction of a new math curriculum with very little professional development.

What could the test results possibly tell parents and the public that we don’t already know?

Yes, there are large gaps. Unless the Ford government is prepared to heavily fund the gaps in learning, and provide necessary supports for educators, these results could be used to further berate educators and undermine public education. Pamela Tylee, Toronto
