Homeless people should be treated better than booze

Toronto could soon allow booze in parks. Here’s how other cities have done it, May 12

Were my eyes deceiving me when I read that the City of Toronto is considering allowing alcohol in public parks and then, in the same issue of your paper, that the city is considering hiring uniformed officers to keep the homeless population out of city parks?

I think this is terrible. What value does the city and society place on people anyway and the horrific way some people must live, through no fault of their own? But yet allowing alcohol in public parks could very well cause some serious issues in itself.

And why not spend that money to end the affordable housing crisis? And while you are at it, give homeless people a modicum of dignity by not treating them lower on the humanity ladder than a bottle of booze. Sue Nielsen, Cobalt, Ont.
