BURLINGTON

Incumbent Liberal MP and cabinet minister Karina Gould has held onto her hometown seat of Burlington.

Gould defeated a challenge from Conservative candidate Emily Brown.

In 2019, Gould defeated Conservative challenger Jane Michael, earning 48.6 per cent of the vote to Michael’s 33.2 per cent.

Gould has represented the riding since 2015, when she knocked off incumbent Conservative MP Mike Wallace, who had represented Burlington in the House of Commons since 2006.

Gould joined Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s cabinet in 2017, when she was named the minister of democratic institutions. In late 2019, she was named minister of international development. She succeeded Maryam Monsef in both roles.

There was a crowded field of candidates this time, with Michael Bator running for the People’s Party of Canada, Nick Page running for the NDP, Christian Cullis running for the Green party, and Jevin David Carroll running for the satirical Rhinoceros Party.
