Iqwinder Singh Gaheer has held the riding of Mississauga— Malton for the Liberals after former innovation minister Navdeep Bains stepped down.

Bains was an MP from 2004 to 2011 in the riding of Mississauga—Brampton South, and again from 2015 to 2021 in the newly formed riding of MississaugaMalton. He served as parliamentary secretary to prime minister Paul Martin, and as minister of innovation under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The area covered by what is now the riding of Mississauga— Malton has swung between the Liberals and the Conservatives in the past. The Mississauga— Brampton South riding, parts of which are now included in Mississauga—Malton, was represented by Eve Adams when she crossed the floor from the Conservatives to the Liberals in 2015.

Wilfrid Laurier law professor Mark Davidson ran for the Green party, while local business owner Waseem Ahmed ran for the NDP. The People’s Party did not name a candidate.
