OSHAWA

Kieran Leavitt

Incumbent Conservative MP Colin Carrie has won the Oshawa riding once again.

Carrie was first elected in 2004 when he beat NDP candidate Sid Ryan and Liberal candidate Louise Parkes. He has represented the riding ever since.

He ran a chiropractic practice in Oshawa before entering politics. Carrie beat NDP candidate Shailene Panylo, an activist and community organizer, and Liberal candidate Afroza Hossain, an accountant.

Carrie held various roles when the Conservatives were in power under Stephen Harper, including parliamentary secretary for industry, health and environment. Most recently, he served as opposition critic for Canada-U.S. relations.

A lifelong resident of Oshawa, Panylo is a director of the notfor-profit Durham Black Students Network and was an organizer of Oshawa’s Black Lives Matter memorial, rally and protest last year.

Sonny Mir ran for the Green party and Darryl Mackie for the People’s Party.
