RICHMOND HILL

Kieran Leavitt

Liberal incumbent Majid Jowhari has won the Richmond Hill riding.

Jowhari was first elected in 2015, when the Liberals swept Stephen Harper’s Conservatives from power.

Conservative candidate Costas Menegakis served as the riding’s member of Parliament from 2011 to 2015, and had been polling neck and neck with Jowhari for much of the campaign.

Jowhari earned a degree in industrial engineering from Ryerson University and an MBA at York University’s Schulich School of Business.

In Parliament, Jowhari has chaired the all-party mental health caucus. Prior to his fouryear stint in office, the riding was held by Liberal Bryon Wilfert from 2004 until 2011.

The issues that have become prominent in the community include economic recovery from COVID-19.

Housing is an issue which continues to rock the region, as housing prices continue to rise as more people move away from the GTA.
