The Liberal party’s Salma Zahid has won the riding of Scarborough Centre.

Zahid first won the riding in 2015 and was re-elected in 2019.

Before politics, she was a community organizer and has a masters in educational management and administration from the University of London’s Institute of Education as well as an MBA from Quaid-iAzam University in Pakistan.

Zahid beat Conservative candidate Malcolm Ponnayan, a health-care executive, and NDP candidate Faiz Kamal, a business operations analyst.

During her time in Parliament, she has served as chair of the standing committee on citizenship and immigration, as well as served as a member of the standing committee on the status of women.

Scarborough Centre is home to the neighbourhoods of Scarborough City Centre, Bendale, Eglinton East, Ionview, Golden Mile, Wexford, Maryvale, and Dorset Park. According to the 2016 census, this riding is home to112,603 people and has 73,627 electors on preliminary lists.
