SCARBOROUGHAGINCOURT

Kieran Leavitt

The Liberals have held on to Scarborough—Agincourt with a win from incumbent Jean Yip.

The riding has been a Liberal stronghold for decades. From 2014 to 2017, it was held by Yip’s husband, Arnold Chan, who died of cancer.

Yip won a byelection held to replace Chan in 2017 and has served as the member of Parliament for the riding ever since.

This year, Yip faced a challenge from Conservative candidate Mark Johnson, a lawyer, and NDP candidate Larisa Julius, a university student.

Prior to her time in politics, Yip was an insurance professional.

In Parliament, she has sat on the standing committee for public accounts and the special committee on Canada-China relations.

Scarborough-Agincourt is home to the neighbourhoods of Steeles, L’Amoreaux, Tam O’Shanter-Sullivan, and parts of Agincourt and Milliken.

According to the 2106 census, this riding is home to 105,542 people and has 69,401 electors on the preliminary lists.
