BEACHES— EAST YORK

Ben Cohen

Nathaniel Erskine-Smith has won the riding of Beaches–East York for the Liberals.

Erskine-Smith has represented the riding in the House of Commons since 2015.

He grew up in the Beaches— East York riding and has law degrees from Queen’s University and the University of Oxford.

Erskine-Smith successfully fended off challenges from NDP candidate Alejandra Ruiz Vargas, the national leadership representative and chair of the East York chapter of ACORN Canada, and Green candidate Reuben DeBoer, a project manager at LifeLabs.

His Conservative opponent, Lisa Robinson, was dropped by her party after Erskine-Smith shared screenshots of Islamophobic tweets that he attributed to Robinson. She denied authoring the tweets, but her candidacy was nonetheless terminated by the Conservative Party of Canada.

Erskine-Smith also runs a podcast called “Uncommons: Canadian Politics with Nathaniel Erskine-Smith.”
