In-person school fundamental to mental health of students

All elementary and high school students are back in class now with COVID safety measures in place. Many students and most teachers are fully vaccinated.

However, some colleges’ classes for some reason are still online only.

There are several Niagara students I know who rented accommodations as early as May 1 anticipating in-person classes would resume. They missed their last few months of high school, graduation, first year of college experiences on campus and in-class lessons. Many are becoming anxious and disengaged.

Maybe it is time the provincial government stepped in and mandated in-person classes for fully vaccinated students. If changes aren’t made, many will drop out or face huge student loans while missing advantages of in-person learning and normal social interactions.
