Erivo to star in ‘The Rose’ remake

Fresh on the heels of her incandescent portrayal of Aretha Frankin, Cynthia Erivo is ready to take on another important role.

The Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award winner is set to produce and lead a remake of the 1979 Bette Midler-headlined film “The Rose.”

According to Variety, Erivo is producing the project under her newly launched Edith’s Daughter banner.

The pint-sized vocal powerhouse will star as a self-destructive female rock star who “struggles to deal with the constant pressures of her career and the demands of those who surround her.”

Centred on fame and addiction, the original film was loosely based on the life and career of Janis Joplin.
